Description
These small coasters are made from oak and walnut offcuts, cut and joined by hand in my small workshop. Each one is a block of golden, open-grained oak with a single stripe of dark walnut running through it, every one with its own character. Using offcuts means good timber that would otherwise be thrown away gets a second life, and it means no two coasters are the same.
They are finished with a hard-wearing hard wax oil, so a wet glass or mug is no problem.

Caring for your coasters
These coasters are finished with a hard-wearing hard wax oil, so they need very little looking after.
Everyday use
- Wet glasses and mugs are no problem. Wipe up any spills and dry the coaster, rather than leaving liquid standing on it.
- Clean with a damp cloth and a little mild soap if needed, then dry. Avoid harsh or abrasive household cleaners.
- Never put them in the dishwasher, and don’t leave them soaking in water.
- Keep them away from direct heat, radiators and strong sunlight. They are made for mugs and glasses, not hot pans or dishes.
Re-finishing
- The finish is hard-wearing, so your coasters shouldn’t need re-oiling for a long time, if ever.
- If a coaster starts to look dry, worn or marked, just get in touch and I’ll be happy to advise, or to re-finish it for you.
Wood is a natural material, and coasters that are used and cared for will develop character over time. This is a sign they are being loved.
